Fireco Dorgard 478-5513 SmartSound, once installed, operates by listening for a continuous sound of 65 decibels or higher. After identifying this sound, it takes approximately 14 seconds for Dorgard to release the fire door. The overhead door closer then exerts pressure to ensure the door closes, effectively sealing off the area and preventing the spread of smoke and fire. Dorgard is a wire-free solution, which means it doesn’t require any wiring into the building’s main fire alarm system. This minimalizes disruption during installation and speeds up the process. When Dorgard is holding a fire door open, it actively “listens” for the continuous sound of a fire alarm. To trigger a response, Dorgard needs to “hear” a fire alarm that exceeds 65 decibels for a duration of at least 14 seconds. Notably, if the ambient noise level in your premises surpasses 80 decibels, Dorgard will release the fire door. This built-in safety feature ensures that in environments with high background noise levels, the fire door promptly closes to enhance safety.
